A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out

March 23, 2009

We’ve witnessed it a million times on the football field. Players fall down. Players help players up. Often, opposing team members help players up. By lending a hand, the player is not saying they are “for” the other team, they are simply extending a common courtesy; something they appreciate themselves. They’re all playing hard – they all want to win.

As a Solopreneur, I want a hand up, not a hand out. I don’t want another self-employed person to rescue me or bail me out of a sticky situation, I want a verbal hand up; a motivational email or encouraging word or some nuts and bolts information. Sometimes there seems to exist, an underlying competitiveness with solopreneurs – who’s hitting the top of the social networking charts and who’s making six figures a year. There are plenty of us, right in the middle, who are in the midst of a steep learning curve and striving to win at our own level and pace.

The way up is to help others – to show common courtesy and genuinely take an interest in others businesses and ventures. Pick a fellow player off the field and help him/her get back on their feet. As humans, we are all on the same team.

Do one thing today to give a hand up, not a hand out.

Hello world!

March 18, 2009

Hello everyone!

My blogs focus on the attributes of pro football players and what makes them great and how we can learn as entrepreneurs how to execute those same qualities to make winning businesses.

I’m a copywriter, copyeditor and proofreader. I am not perfect…now that’s a revelation and a half. I’ve known that for quite some time now but I love writing, I love football and I love seeing fellow solopreneurs succeed and thus this blog.

I hope to hear from all of you and learn much as we move forward together.
